The Lowitja Institute is committed to the development of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researcher workforce. This award recognises excellence for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers undertaking either Masters or PhD study.

Eligibility criteria

Application was open to:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who have completed Masters and/or PhD studies after 2014
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who will have completed Masters and/or PhD studies by December 2016.

Scope of research

  1. research for the benefit of the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people
  2. the scope of research disciplines is broad and could include, for example, basic science, medicine, epidemiology, public health, social health and community health.

Selection criteria

  1. Demonstrated academic excellence in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health research
  2. Demonstrated leadership and scholarship in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health research
  3. Demonstrated research benefit and impact for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
  4. Supporting information – Two references and your CV will also be taken into account.

Prize

  • $5000 cash
  • 3-day registration to the Lowitja Institute International Indigenous Health and Wellbeing Conference
  • Travel and accommodation.
